We worked with MALLINCKRODT PHARMACEUTICALS, a multibillion dollar specialty pharmaceutical company focused on providing medicines to address unmet patient needs.
Problem to solve
Customer needed to transfer DMAC (dimethylacetamide), a colorless, water-miscible organic compound. It is commonly used as a polar solvent in organic synthesis. It is of low acute toxicity. Chronic exposure can cause hepatotoxicity.
Technical solution
To do this, we designed, manufactured, and tested a top loading arm and a metering skid.
The arm is completely pneumatic. It has two cylinders, one for vertical movements and one for the actuation of telescopic drop pipe, that allows to reach all the depths of tank trucks. Drop pipe is equipped with a vapor recovery cone, connected to a hose. Both cylinders are actuated by a pendant remote controller.
The loading arm is 35-25 mm Rockwool insulated and cladded, to avoid the heat exchange. Electrical heat tracing helps to maintain the product at a steady operating temperature, to guarantee safety and correct working.
Metering skid meters the quantity of product flow inside the loading arm and it is monitored by local control panel. It detects system failures and malfunctions.
Conclusions
The results are excellent, and the station works properly. We managed to satisfy all the customer needs.
